Here’s a new mix for your early-onset winter blues. A tasteful selection of balearic and nu-disco jams to lift your spirits on those days where it just seems like there isn’t enough daylight to get you through. I’ve been keeping a few of these tunes in heavy rotation on my iPod recently, especially the Lana Del Rey, NSFW and Lovebirds joints. Keep a special eye out for an unreleased tune by Paris-via-Philly Venice Beach and Young Robots’ own Bang Noyes!
1. Lana Del Rey – Blue Jeans (Penguin Prison Remix) [Stranger]
2. NSFW – Coconut (Cosmonauts Remix) [This Is]
3. Venice Beach – Midnight [Unreleased]
4. Flight Facilities f/ Jess – Foreign Language (Drop Out Orchestra Remix) [Future Classic] 5. Bang Noyes – Special [Young Robots]
6. Andrew Clarke – Head Up High [Audio Parallax]
7. Michna – Real Hero [XLR8R]
8. Mr. A and Something Good – B.A.B.E. (Tommi Oskari and Tero Remix) [Top Billin]
9. Lovebirds ft/ Stee Downes – Want You In My Soul [Winding Road]
For those of you who are too young to remember, there used to be these records of beats and loops that you’d use for everything from scratch sounds to production drum loops. You’d grab 12s from DJ Rectangle, STD Breaks, Battle Axe Breaks and run the one-minute drum loop tracks over top of songs that needed some OOMPH. They were also the go-to tools for getting the drums from that Skull Snaps record you could never find so that you could flip beats like Easy Mo Bee or whatever.
Well our compadres at T&A Records have updated the break record formula. They dropped a few Baltimore beats and breaks 12 inches a few years back, but now that records are almost entirely dead, they have put out an all digital break record.
T&A Breaks III – Moombahton Loops and Samples pulls back the curtain to let you see the building blocks that guys like Munchi, Sabo and, oh yes, DJ Apt One and Skinny Friedman aka Philadelphyinz, use to make-a-the-moombahton. Our track includes some of the loops and synth lines I used in tracks like Bells and Whistles.
Tracklist
1. Munchi Essential Moombahton Loops and Samples
2. DJ Sabo Moombahton Loops and Samples
3. DJ Ayres Moombahton Loops and Samples
4. Orion Moombahton Loops and Samples
5. Melo Moombahton Loops and Samples
6. Philadelphyinz Moombahton Loops and Samples
7. A-Mac Moombahton Loops and Samples
8. Torro Torro Moombahton Loops and Samples

I have a tune on a really fantastic compilation that my boy Pickster put together. Pretty huge lineup of artists on there. It came out last week and I’ve been running around crazy so I haven’t had time to give it the proper post until now. I have a tune called Yin Yang on there that has been killin’ in my sets, and now you can have it for free.
Effin’ A!
Here’s my tune, and you can find the entire comp below.
After two years of work, our follow up to our debut EP and its subsequent singles is finally out today! You can buy the record at iTunes, Juno, Amazon, Turntable Lab and more, but those are the easiest places to get it. We are incredibly proud of this record and we have a great remix EP follow up in a few months with Fifteenth, Pink Skull, Pumpkin Patch, Ayres, Laberge, Burnso, Elvis Suarez and some special secret remixers!
Listen to it all here, and please do buy a song or two or maybe the whole thing! This is how we eat!!
We have a big release party at THE BALL in Philly at Kung Fu Necktie, with the second-ever RCMP performance in Philadelphia. Make a note on your disco calendar, come through and celebrate with us!!!
In advance of their upcoming EP entitled “RCMP II,” the boys in RCMP have released a video for the slow burner that leads off the record – “Sweat and Loving.” Like RCMP, this video is all well-heeled gigolos, well-lit discotheques and free-loving Soviets!
If you haven’t heard the promo mix of RCMP’s new EP and remix EP, check it out at the release page and stay tuned – the record drops October 18th and there’s a release party at Kung Fu Necktie in Philly on the 21st!
Young Robots Podcast #1 is out! We’re hoping to make this a monthly affair – it’s basically a music talkshow with some interviews and DJ mixes in there. Here’s the description:
DJ Apt One, Shawn Ryan and Ed Blammo mix records and interview friends and in the process…they reveal the true story of Snap’s “The Power” … assign a Hollywood insider to see if Tom Cruise knows who Com Truise is and hear all about Pittsburgh’s huge VIA Festival this week. Dirty South Joe tells us about his dog’s Birthday, Stereofaith tells us about the DC scene and Apt One mixes the best of DC. Skinny Friedman checks in to tell us about new rap coming out and the dudes drink a lot of beer and cut it up! This episode also features previews of records by RCMP and Pumpkin Patch. Other topics of discussion include Hank Williams, Sadat X, ravers in the forest, drawing the koran on the back of a postage stamp, white dreads, Riff Raff’s slimer chain and dudes with no arms fixing your bike. Good way to burn some time!
