Oh shit oh shit oh shit! (wassup Raaaaaaaandy?) We’re bringin DJ Ayres to Philadelphyinz!

Ayres is one third of the party voltron known as The Rub and one third of the magic rave situation known as Flashing Lights. Him and Tittsworth also run the reliably diverse (?) T&A Records.

We’ve been lucky to have the dude in our corner over the years. He doesn’t make it down to Philly much so don’t miss it!

To those of you who live in Philly, our friend Sabina, who had worked the door for Philadelphyinz many a night and was a consistent, sweet and cheerful presence in the nightlife scene for many years, was senselessly and brutally murdered two days ago in Northern Liberties. The details should be well known, it’s been on the front page of the papers.

We’re deeply saddened and upset by this awful event and we will be donating portions of the door and bar from our night at Silk City this Friday to her memorial fund.

You can donate personally to the fund, which as I understand goes towards funeral expenses and a reward for the apprehension of her reprehensible sicko of a murderer. You can do that by going to the following page, set up by the people at PYT, where she worked as a hostess and server.

I don’t really have anything particularly eloquent to say other than that I’m really saddened, disturbed and disgusted by this whole event and hopefully somehow the world becomes a better place because of the outpouring of support that we’ve seen since this tragedy.

Fresh off last month’s extravaganza w/ the legendary DJ Neil Armstrong, we’re back for another HOT MESS. Skinny + Apt One spinning a big-ass casserole dish full of rap, funk, disco and other awesome jams all night long. The haters scream “oh no”!

This is a mix I made for my homies who are celebrating the 4th anniversary of one of the coolest parties in the world, Down and Derby. It’s a roller disco party and I wanted to put together some jams that I’ve played there over the years (as well as some more obscure joints), but I also wanted to play with the depth to the roller dance “genre.”

I remember going to roller skating parties as a kid and dancing to new jack swing, hip hop and R&B, but obviously the genre is most closely associated with funky disco from the 70s. However, 80s funk, house and even early techno were roller groovers in various cities and eras so I had to toss some of those in as well. And if you go to Detroit, Kenny “Moodymann” Dixon is still doing it up roller-style with soulful sounds, house and more. So really, it’s not so much about the roller skates and more about just straight up groovin on the dancefloor to anything worth dancing to!
