This Friday, I am very proud to present to the world the Philly International Records 40th Anniversary Re-Edits and Remixes compilation.  It’s a comp available only in Europe, part of a series of 14 CDs of retrospective and new material from one of Philly’s great cultural institutions.

I have a remix of one of my favorite songs of all time, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes’ “Wake Up Everybody” on this comp, and it is a top 10 selling R&B record on Amazon UK.  Harmless Records, BBC and Philly International were great to ask me to participate in this project and I’m very glad that as the only participant in the remix project from Philadelphia, I have the privilege of presenting it to you.  This is the only place in North America you can get this CD (provided all the international shipping comes in on time!).

Furthermore, I am so pleased that we have Del, a great DJ and a great lover of Philly Disco with us to guest, and this also marks the grand debut of the newest resident at The Ball, DJ BRUCE!! We’re gonna show you why disco and house music are the best to sweat to!

This year went by pretty fast, and it seems like the internet age makes time move so fast that every two weeks or so, the entire internet has turned over and is filled with completely new content. Remember “Texts With Bennett?” Yeah that was like three weeks ago and now it’s ancient history.

Anyway, here’s a little retrospective of the music that I put out this year, and when you see it all at once, it’s a pretty sizeable amount! This email can get you 24 tunes and 4 mixes. Not shabby. I definitely missed some things, and other stuff, like my work on T&A Breaks, isn’t on soundcloud, but can be found for sale.

It was a pretty good year, all-in-all. I got married, put out a lot of music, finally released a new RCMP record, found myself on BBC1, NPR and a Dimitri From Paris mix. I went lots of new places and met lots of new people and, thanks to DJ Ayres, we re-booted Young Robots Records with some great new acts!

Here’s a new mix for your early-onset winter blues. A tasteful selection of balearic and nu-disco jams to lift your spirits on those days where it just seems like there isn’t enough daylight to get you through. For those of you who are too young to remember, there used to be these records of beats and loops that you’d use for everything from scratch sounds to production drum loops. You’d grab 12s from DJ Rectangle, STD Breaks, Battle Axe Breaks and run the one-minute drum loop tracks over top of songs that needed some OOMPH. They were also the go-to tools for getting the drums from that Skull Snaps record you could never find so that you could flip beats like Easy Mo Bee or whatever.

Well our compadres at T&A Records have updated the break record formula. They dropped a few Baltimore beats and breaks 12 inches a few years back, but now that records are almost entirely dead, they have put out an all digital break record.

T&A Breaks III – Moombahton Loops and Samples pulls back the curtain to let you see the building blocks that guys like Munchi, Sabo and, oh yes, DJ Apt One and Skinny Friedman aka Philadelphyinz, use to make-a-the-moombahton. Our track includes some of the loops and synth lines I used in tracks like Bells and Whistles.
