Nuptual Roundup Vol 1 – Classic Rock Fantasy Football

Apt One @ June 6th, 2011 ... · No Comments

So I just got back from my honeymoon, and the lady and I spent a good twenty plus hours in the car over the course of the whole trip to and from Bar Harbor, Maine. To pass the time, we played “Classic Rock Fantasy Football” – a game where you draft 11 bands/acts and you score a point each time you hear them played on the radio. Every boondock town has a classic rock station, and there are regional nuances to draft strategy too.

It was a tie game, with my diverse attack keeping a slight lead over the lady’s Beatles-centric offense until a late score by Joan Jett, who’d been quiet all game, left the game in a late tie.

Here is the box score:

Obviously, Paul McCartney wins player of the game, with a writing credit on over a quarter of the scoring songs. In hindsight, it was kinda dumb to leave Skynyrd, Tom Petty, CSN/CSNY, Elton John, The Kinks and the Doors undrafted. There were also way too many Dan Fogelberg songs played for some reason. We heard America but no Neil Young, although I suggested making a half-point allowance for an America song because they are such biters. I was pretty suprised not to hear The Who or Meatloaf. The lady’s whole team was basically a mirror of the Dallas Mavericks – leave the scoring to Dirk Nowitzki while Tyson Chandler and Genesis play cards in the corner. Next trip we’re gonna officially retire the Beatles.
