Despite Lexie’s best efforts to jinx the dear Pittsburgh Penguins, the Pens won again last night, bringing their series lead to 2-0 over the dastardly and subhuman Philadelphia Flyers. Although I expect the cross-state shenanigans to continue unabated on this site, I can’t imagine that Lexie’s hexing will have much of an effect, even as the series shifts to the unfriendly Wachovia Center in Philadelphia. “Why” you ask?

We’ve put some safeguards into place. First, I made sure to wear my 1991-92 Penguins “Back to Back Stanley Cup Champions” tee on Saturday night (pictured above), deflecting any voodoo Flyers fans might try to throw my way. Second, we received word from the homeboy DJ GoofyWhiteKid that he’d put Pittsburgh Club Anthem in the intermission mix he did for the Penguins and Mellon Arena. So the Philadelphyinz aura hangs impenetrably in the air at the arena, denying evildoers entry into our heroes’ souls. (Also, big shout to GWK for being the first to drop Pgh Club Anthem on Pittsburgh radio last fall!!)

When we rolled through Detroit a few weeks ago we stopped by old Tiger Stadium, where my moms used to go watch baseball, and where the Tigers played from 1912 until 2000. The Stadium is just sitting, rotting. It’s pretty sad and entirely indicative of the absurd way in which Detroit is going back to nature in many ways. But despite that, it was pretty fascinating and amazing- nobody really wants the land on which many major civic landmarks sit, so they just rot until they eventually and inevitably burn.

Anyway, the New York Times just did what we couldn’t do when we were there, they went inside and took pictures of the old yard as it rots from the inside. You can see our flicks here.

Oh, and it’s not all sports and inter-city hexes this week, there’s also, uh BLACK METAL BAKING. Delicious. Also, metal as fuck.

In a perfect world everything would be as stark and void of color as these cupcakes. They are baneful in their absolute disdain for your tastelessness, and are true misanthropes as far as baked goods go.
