Apt One Interview by Heavy In The Streets

The homie Sorce-1 interviewed me for an expansive series on crate digging DJs called Can You Dig It. This gave me a chance to wax eloquent about records, record culture, record digging, the time I went digging with Peanut Butter Wolf and the time when I fucked up and gave my friend Shannon, who plays an undead clown on a television show, a rare record because I felt bad for him.

I was glad to do the interview because I’m pretty fascinated with the way the digital revolution has transformed the DJ trade over the last five years. I’m realizing that I’m kind of the Last of the Mohicans in a way- I’m part of the last generation to learn the DJ trade using analog and nothing else. I use Serato now, but largely because of ease of convenience and travel. But I was wax only for eight years or something- and I came to digital DJing late. Many DJs my age (25) don’t have the weird ethnomusicology skills that come with spending hundreds or thousands of hours sifting through musical artifacts. OK, I digress - it was a total nerd fest.

Anyways, go check it out at the link below, and poke around Heavy In The Streets for a little while, lots of good interviews over there. Most of the other DJs he has interviewed are cats that I have a great deal of respect for so I’m pretty flattered to be included in that group.
